Dr. West’s connection to HSU goes beyond academia; he met his wife, Emily, on campus, and they now return with their three children to the place where they fell in love and married nearly 18 years ago. Dr. West and Emily look forward to embracing HSU’s vibrant culture once more. Meanwhile, their children are already enchanted by the dessert bar in The Caf and the putting greens at the Tommy Hale Short Game Center.

Complimenting his academic success, Dr. West brings practical experience, having served as the lead pastor for First Baptist Planview since December 2017, as well as in various other churches across West Texas, including Stamford, Sweetwater, and Rotan, where he began his ministry as a youth minister. In addition, Dr. West served as an adjunct professor at Wayland Baptist University for the last four years.

Dr. West recognizes Werth Mayes and Paul Mints, Ken Lyle, Sr., his supervisor for the D. Min program, and his father, Joe David West, as mentors who have played a pivotal role in shaping him into a respected pastor.

Excited about this new role at Hardin-Simmons University, Dr. West aims to strengthen the connection between Logsdon and West Texas churches, fostering new ministries to love and lead the church community.
